Mini ZigZag Quilt

I made this little quilt using the 'waste triangles' from making another set of my placemats.

My husband likes the zigzag pattern, and likes the fabrics too. I have almost used up every bit of the paisley fabric!

My brother is a father again this Father's Day! My 5th niece was born on the 18th. I made this quilt on the 19th! Hope to finish it this week and deliver it in person next weekend.
Welcome, Sadie!

Welcome to all the visitors I'm having this weekend too!

Thanks to the Selvage Blog for posting my Selvage Coaster Tutorial

Thanks for visiting.

Finish It Up Weekend - Extended Version

>> Monday, October 26, 2009

Not much change on the design wall as it was get in the trenches and finish some projects weekend. Pat Sloan has great motivational weekends to keep you going on your quilts.

Twins! I finished the second bag. Now my daughter has one and one is ready for the Halloween birthday.

This is the back of one of the projects I worked on. It's one of the few Christmas presents that I'm making this year. I'll show the front - next year:)

Sunday I made the back, put the layers together and quilted this top. My mini zigzag that's been done since June! I put a sleeve on which looks like it's going to be pretty tiny and the binding is almost done. 2 1/2 sides done while watching football. I plan to keep at it today.

I also am happy to report my Scrap Nest made it to Sew, Mama, Sew! It's in there with all the other cute ones posted on October 23rd. You can VOTE for my tutorial and I could win a gift certificate to their shop:) . Check out all 114 tutorials here.

Oh, and Nanette's a grandma! She has pictures of the new baby too!

Check to see what the other quilters have been busy with. Judy does the work to keep us motivated every week.

With Joy,
Sarah Vee

Friday Photo Finishes - and Starts

>> Friday, June 12, 2009

Regularly scheduled (?!) quilting was put on hold during this morning's toddler nap to make this bag.
I again did the drawstring top as I love the gathering effect. This one is for another birthday girl.

She was at the last party and requested one! Big fish in small pond? No, just girls:) and their accessories.I did get the stitching done around all 4 carrots and 4 bunnies for the Bunny Lady quilt. You will have to wait a little bit to see more progress on that top as my birthday picnic quilt is taking up all the design space - and time - right now.
I also got the border on my mini zigzag. Bright green! Husband approved too:) As you can see, I didn't have quite enough fabric to finish. What did I do?
I used some of my extra zigzag squares to finish the border! I put them down at the bottom right and think of them like a 'bar code'. I might, might, put the word 'zig zag' in them when I'm quilting it. We'll see - when that day comes!

I have also just started the Studio Journal course with Sharon B. of Pin Tangle. It is exactly what I have been looking for! I may share here some of my tasks or just some ideas. Part of the great thing about this course (already!) is that it puts you in the right frame of mind to take creativity seriously. Or be serious about being creative. Responsible for your own JOY! Nice, eh:)

Enjoy the weekend,
Sarah Vee

What's Up Wednesday

>> Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Here's my design wall this morning. I forgot how much I enJOY working with kid prints and bright, happy fabric!! This is the middle of the quilt. We'll see what I do next as this is all of the green print I have.

You can also see that I decided on a bright green for the border of the mini zigzag.
I did finish my 4 Lady of the Lake blocks for last week. Only 30 to go. I figured out I need 480 Half square triangles to go around my blocks!!! Wow!

EnJOY your time quilting,
Sarah Vee

I Zigged , I Zagged!

My mini zig zag is pieced! Yay! The toddler is awake now so progress will be halted on trimming the sides. But I do have some fabric in mind for a border. Hoping I have enough of it.
This picture gives you an idea of the size so far. I am overJOYed! I loved watching the little rows come together. Definitely need to pin as you go along. But worth the reward of perfect little zigs and zags. Best thing, my design wall is almost EMPTY! Now to catch up on the Lady of the Lake for this week - and last:)
Cheers,
Here's to sneaking some more sewing JOY into your day,
Sarah Vee

What's up Wednesday

>> Wednesday, June 3, 2009

This is my 2nd post on projects I'm working on. It started because of Judy L. and Pin Tangle. Check their blogs to see how other people are progressing. This is my post from last Wednesday. Here's what's up and what's done for me:

The mini zigzag now has all of the individual squares placed. I now need to sew the squares into diagonal rows, then sew the rows together. Haven't done anymore yet this week.
I got the turquoise stitched around this bunny. I really like how it made the bunny 'hop' off the block!
I also finished the green stitching on this carrot.
And thanks to lots of Elmo, baseball and hockey, I started on this week's bunny in yellow:)

I did get my four Lady of the Lake blocks done for the week. I was sick for 3 days, so now I know I can get this minimum accomplished. Most of my quilting got caught up on Monday with a very sleepy toddler:)
This week's Lady of the Lake blocks are all green. I got behind on prepping my half square triangles for these blocks, so I have some work to do here still this week.
I did get 'Sam's bird' done. I call it an I D.I.D IT(done in'a day!) Nothing fancy. It's stretched over an 8x10 artist canvas. I did stitch on the orange belly and beak with orange, but otherwise I used my sewing machine white thread to quickly put it all together. It took me less than 5 minutes as all the fabrics were just *staring* at me when I went to my stash. It's going to hang in Sam's room. I was going to put "tweet tweet" on it in either blue or orange, but the day was done before I could. So that's that.

Now let's see what next week will look like!

So, SEW, so I did!

Sam's Bird

in the treetops

I have had this picture in my mind for a week now. There is a robin that comes to sing at the top of a large cedar tree behind our back fence. My son saw it one day outside and stopped to listen. The next day he brought me over to the sliding glass doors to show me that the bird had returned. I plan to make this simple, fast, and mount it on a stretched canvas I picked up at the $ store - just for this purpose. Check back tomorrow for the results. (I said FAST! It's not on my projects list so it has to sneak to success quick!!) And more things to report on tomorrow too.

Do something fun and exciting - Sew JoY today,

Have the dust bunnies gotten you yet?

>> Thursday, May 14, 2009

I had the best of intentions when Sew Mama Sew had their Spring Cleaning. I even copied and PRINTED the list of things to clean. I even watched the video! Alas, not until my machine ate thread today did I tackle it. Ucky in there, folks. (You'll thank me for not posting those bunnies!) Needless to say, my machine is humming along and I've thrown a new project into it!
I'm using a vinyl tablecloth, folded in half with the flannel backing for a quick setup design board. This quilt is addictive! I know I will run out of matching stash and soon have the size I want. Then I will have to put all my SQUARES together.

Yes, SqUaReS! Here's the tutorial from Crazy Mom Quilts. (Posted on BEE Square fabric blog).
Not like I needed more to do. I'm trying to console myself that I've decided not to join Pat Sloan's tea cup swap ala Alice in Wonderland. It's funky and fun, but the timeline doesn't work for me...So instead I cut into this one. I'm calling it a mini - the strips are 1 1/2 and the blocks are 2 1/2, but still, I think MINI usually refers to the finished size of the quilt. This one I'm planning at least 30 inches.

PLEASE NOTE: I changed the size of my blocks to use what I had of my fabric inspiration. The tutorial makes bigger blocks and a bigger quilt. Maybe I'll get this done before the end of the week/month/year?! We'll see. My toddler may rip this all down and then I may just tuck it away for another rainy day (or stay up all night one night this long weekend:)) SeW JoY! Sarah Vee
