Cake to Go

When I finish my Christmas gift making this week, the next thing on my list is making my Block 4s. I do have the fabrics picked out!

Two gifts I made include my test blocks for the Quilt Along.




I made one into a small bag for a niece. It will be filled with books.




I made a second, larger one too. I used a lot of the construction method of making the Green Bag Lady bags.




You could make extra blocks into bags quite easily. To make the larger one, I added 2 1/2 inch strips to each side.

Finish It Up Weekend - Extended Version

Not much change on the design wall as it was get in the trenches and finish some projects weekend. Pat Sloan has great motivational weekends to keep you going on your quilts.




Twins! I finished the second bag. Now my daughter has one and one is ready for the Halloween birthday.



This is the back of one of the projects I worked on. It's one of the few Christmas presents that I'm making this year. I'll show the front - next year:)




Sunday I made the back, put the layers together and quilted this top. My mini zigzag that's been done since June! I put a sleeve on which looks like it's going to be pretty tiny and the binding is almost done. 2 1/2 sides done while watching football. I plan to keep at it today.



I also am happy to report my Scrap Nest made it to Sew, Mama, Sew! It's in there with all the other cute ones posted on October 23rd. You can VOTE for my tutorial and I could win a gift certificate to their shop:) . Check out all 114 tutorials here.

Oh, and Nanette's a grandma! She has pictures of the new baby too!

It's Raining Blocks and . . . Socks!

One bag finished. This is for my daughter's friend whose birthday is on Halloween.
The main bag fabric is from my daughter's stash, which I try not to envy:) The handle batik fabric was from mine. I prefer to use batik when making straps as it stays folded when making strips meaning I don't have to use the iron for this step:)

I finished another row of blocks. I'm not sure I like them set beside each other. They are quarters of the larger Bear Paw block.
I'm thinking of this arrangement instead with a churn dash between. We'll see what the weekend brings.

What about the socks, you ask?

No hope of staying dry here today. It's pouring. Guess we'll stay inside and play - and maybe sew!

What's Up? It's Wednesday?!

Time is slipping by as the summer is washed away in the rain. I'm busy with school holidays and visiting, but am trying to finish my monthly projects and get a move on some new things.
My design wall (sorry, picture taken in the morning so there's sunlight in the background) has up some stockings for the Season of Grace BOM hosted by Pat Sloan and Emilie Richards. This month is yoyo trees and snowmen.
Also up is the background for the Little Bouquet Quilt Along and some of my first flowers for the bouquet. They are made 'freestyle' log cabin - cut an uneven centre and start adding to each side. These will be my biggest flowers. Lots more to do!



I did finish the birthday bag - to rave reviews:) Now my daughter wants one with the same fabric so she can match her friend - who lives 2 1/2 hours away!:)



I've also been indulging in purchasing fabric! My excuse? One of the quilt stores where I used to live is closing. So I have to help them clear out, don't I? Don't worry, my mom and sister are helping to reduce inventory as well:)

I SEW ENJOY colour! And quilting is SEW much fun! ENJOY a little today.
