A Quilty Day! {Pumpkins, Traffic Jam and Curling Rocks}

pumpkin blocks with scrappy setting triangles

It won't stop talking to me!
This quilt has pushed it's way to the top of my list even though I really should be working on others.
I'm giving in because it makes me grin every time I look at it.
So yesterday I got up and started working more on it.

third setting triangle 9 patch

I found enough large pieces of 9 fabrics to make another 9 patch to cut into setting triangles. I used the same fabric in the middle of this one as the other two. It adds a little control to this pretty vibrant quilt.

I got the block cut and half of the center sewn together before I headed out for the day.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to be sewing the rest together once I'm done writing this ;)

me with Shirley and Traffic Jam quilt

My husband and I went to Sudbury to visit and pick up my Traffic Jam quilt! My friend Shirley, who I met online through Pat Sloan's Quilt Mashup Group, quilted it for me.
I am so happy with the whole experience. It is truly amazing how much my quilting life has gained from the internet.

Which led to my third quilty thing yesterday - my Curling Rocks Runner!

Shirley was my inspiration for this design as she loves curling. It was so fun to be able to give it to her as a way to say thanks for quilting my quilt for me.

AND there is a tutorial for the runner up this week at QuiltSocial.com so you can make one for yourself or to make as a gift!

I hope you enjoyed my quilty day - I sure did :)

p.s. If you like the runner can you please leave me comments about it over at Quilt Social? Thanks so much!!

Proof of Progress

>> Wednesday, April 10, 2013

I have been quilting, really! Here's some proof.
My daughter was generous enough to hold up this quilt top in progress.
It's called Traffic Jam and is designed by Pat Sloan.
Soon the pattern will be available on her website if you haven't been receiving her newsletter.
I have enough blocks left to add two more rows.
The bigger this quilt gets the more questions I get as to whose quilt this will be. . .?

I also completed a baby quilt for my sister's baby that is due by the end of April.
I'll share the whole quilt once the baby has arrived.
This is a sneak peek of my favourite block on the quilt;)

With Joy,
Sarah Vee

Final Four

>> Tuesday, March 12, 2013

I finished up what I think will be the final four blocks for my Traffic Jam quilt.
I showed a photo of the first 20 blocks laid out here.

My machine is getting a well deserved {overdue!} tuneup this week.

I'm on March Break holidays my kids
{a well deserved, overdue break!?} LOL

Looking Forward

>> Monday, March 11, 2013

It's easy to fool myself that I'm looking forward, when really I spend so much time looking back. I'm late posting my February dreamboard, but now it's the new moon and time to start searching the deeps for next month's full moon. Jamie's prompts are in this post.

Remember when you used to build sandcastles really close to the shore? Digging out the moat only to have water {from within and without} swoosh in and eat away at what you were building.
March kind of feels like that. Too much snow, then a little rain. A day of sunshine, a week of grey skies.
Keep looking forward.

I'm always looking forward in my quilts. What's next?
For this scrappy quilt it's time to stop and evaluate the present.
I don't have enough of the black fabric to make the sashing Pat Sloan has suggested. Now I'm in that special land of what ifs and calculating down to the last inch.
In this scenario, I need to make 4 more blocks.
It still might not leave me with enough black to make a floating border.
But it might leave me with a quilt that's big enough.

Enough.
I am striving for that right now.
To feel complete in the middle.
To acknowledge how far I've gotten down the path to be here.
 Right now.

Hope you are finding ways to enjoy the Messy Middle
Right now,

Sarah Vee
