Monochromatic Design Wall

>> Monday, January 10, 2011

My Design Wall is definitely looking Monochromatic this morning!

The yellow you can see is an attempt at using some scraps to create - something. I'm putting the Monochromatic challenge on the back burner right now as I keep changing my mind:)

I typed and printed a label for my 2010 String quilt. I used a sheet of "Quilted Treasures" fabric you can put through an ink jet printer. I left a bit of space at the top so I can sign the label in my handwriting too - something Bonnie Hunter has talked about doing.

This is a white pumpkin for my Halloween 1904 quilt. I'm working on this quilt as my leader and ender project this year instead of starting another monthly block quilt. I found this pumpkin when I went searching for another quilt to do handwork on for the winter - more blocks for the Madhatter Tea Party challenge.

This is the background fabric I'm using in my Madhatter Tea Party challenge quilt {which is very late for the challenge, but I want to make it anyway:)}
This fabric is from a Robyn Pandolph line called "Flirt" and I love it! I have had to resist buying more of it.

Here's a photo of the teapot block I've completed. You can see the other blocks I've finished here.

Happy Birthday, Pat Sloan!

>> Friday, November 26, 2010

Today is Pat Sloan's birthday!

I decided to do a "Tribute" post and share the projects I have made with Pat's patterns and by hanging out with her and the Sloanies at her forum.
Enjoy!

My OP Challenge quilt. Started Feb. 2009 through Pat's Orange Pile challenge. It's the only twin quilt in our house that I've made! My daughter has claimed it.

Pat's Fall quilt pattern in Irish Quilting magazine. I did this one for a swap partner at Pat's Death by Quilting forum page.

I also started {late!} the Madhatter Tea blocks and setting challenge at Death by Quilting. I plan to work on these blocks this year and have a finished quilt.

uh-oh! Another UFO! This is my Camp Sloanie tent flap quilt. I just haven't got back to it. I have lots of different settings saved on my computer. I think this is the one I like best. I would like to finish this too.

My Wishing Well tablerunner - is still not done:(
Don't blame Pat! I take on a lot of projects and this one is really quick. I just stopped at the machine applique part;)
This was Pat's free project with this year's Falloween hop.

Pat's Lucky Charms sew along with Old Red Barn.
Again, stopped at the machine applique.
But I will finish this soon!! It's on the 'short list'

And so you don't think I just get inspired by Pat and never finish anything. . .

My Season of Grace Block of the Month. Designed by Pat Sloan and Emilie Richards.
Finished and ready for December first!

You can wish Pat a Happy Birthday too. She has lots going on - all of the time!

Tea for Two

>> Tuesday, April 20, 2010

The teapot is ready.

I blanket stitched with dark blue to make it look a little less zany. Only a little, though.

This is for the Pat Sloan Madhatter Tea Party Challenge. It finished last year - so I am appropriately late!

This is the creamer. I have to make the sugar still.

Two cups of tea are ready, too.

Fabulous Fabrics

>> Wednesday, April 14, 2010

A fabulous package of fabrics arrived for me. I love how I get the 'bonus' ribbon of fabric with my orders through Z and S fabrics. Great selection too.

I grabbed the last remnant of Nest. The aqua in this print doesn't match anything else I have so it may have to sit in the inspiration pile for awhile until I can find it some mates.

There is a free pattern available for this NEST quilt. What do you think?

These three actually seem to go together. I bought a big piece of some Nikki by Pat Sloan. It's in a bright burgundy which is low in my stash. I also restocked some orange. I love the stripe! It's even better in person. It's from Woodstock by Benartex. I may have to get some more of that line. But I may be using this stripe in my Mad Hatter Tea Party quilt . . .

The stripes may work wonderfully as sashing between these blocks. The teapot is now fused and ready for some blanket stitching. I'm thinking dark blue on everything - but that could change!

I purchased the remnant of this Alice print. The characters are very similar to the ones in a copy of the book I have. It may make it into the quilt too.

That's the end of stash building for a bit. Time to use some up!

Thursday 3 Takes - A Push for Progress

>> Thursday, April 1, 2010

My March string blocks. Apparently I didn't take a picture of last week's block on it's own; it's the bottom right one.

The teapot block parts drawn onto fusible. This will be my fourth block from Pat Sloan's Madhatter Tea Party challenge. April is looking like a block catch up month for me - baskets, tea party and maybe some new ones too.

This is a quilt I can't wait to finish. I started cutting many months ago- Halloween 1904 by Blackbird Designs. It's my reward quilt as I now have several quilts to finish. This is the PUSH I need to pin, quilt, bind and label 5 quilts that I can think of off the top of my head. (It sure is crowded up there!)

What "pushes' you to get things done?
If it's chocolate - you're in for a good weekend!

Sweet Hearts and Tea

>> Sunday, February 14, 2010

It's slow going on the table runner quilting. I adjusted the exposure on this photo so you could see the row of hearts on the runner. A happy accident!

Still using freezer paper to add some more designs. I'm making smaller heart circles in the four corners. I've planned some paisleys for between the blocks.

I prepped another tea cup from the Madhatter Tea Party Challenge. Some Olympic handwork.

Chocolate tip of the day: Choose a chocolate heart that you can pop in your mouth in one bite to prevent chocolatey fingers on your quilt top:) A "kiss" works too!

Two for Tea

>> Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Pat Sloan had a Madhatter's Tea Party block challenge - last year. I started late, but I will finish! This is my first teacup.

This is the creamer. I need to prep a few more blocks to stitch around while watching TV.

I finished last week's string block.

Quilting progress will be slow this week with two sick toddlers.

Enjoy every stitch!

I'm Late, but Having Fun Anyway!

creamer

teacup

I have started on my blocks for Pat Sloan's Madhatter Tea Party challenge. The challenge is over, BUT, I knew I was going to do this project from the get go. FUNKY was how she described colour choices for the teacups.
How could I not!:)

Originally the teacups were a swap followed by Pat adding a creamer, sugar and teapot which has polka dots!! You can check out her flickr pool here showing some great original, funky quilts.

This is my applique project while watching sports this winter. I hope to have it completed after Easter. That's a workable timeline for me:)

ENJOY your day,

Sarah Vee
