Happy Birthday, Pat Sloan!

>> Friday, November 26, 2010

Today is Pat Sloan's birthday!

I decided to do a "Tribute" post and share the projects I have made with Pat's patterns and by hanging out with her and the Sloanies at her forum.
Enjoy!

My OP Challenge quilt. Started Feb. 2009 through Pat's Orange Pile challenge. It's the only twin quilt in our house that I've made! My daughter has claimed it.

Pat's Fall quilt pattern in Irish Quilting magazine. I did this one for a swap partner at Pat's Death by Quilting forum page.

I also started {late!} the Madhatter Tea blocks and setting challenge at Death by Quilting. I plan to work on these blocks this year and have a finished quilt.

uh-oh! Another UFO! This is my Camp Sloanie tent flap quilt. I just haven't got back to it. I have lots of different settings saved on my computer. I think this is the one I like best. I would like to finish this too.

My Wishing Well tablerunner - is still not done:(
Don't blame Pat! I take on a lot of projects and this one is really quick. I just stopped at the machine applique part;)
This was Pat's free project with this year's Falloween hop.

Pat's Lucky Charms sew along with Old Red Barn.
Again, stopped at the machine applique.
But I will finish this soon!! It's on the 'short list'

And so you don't think I just get inspired by Pat and never finish anything. . .

My Season of Grace Block of the Month. Designed by Pat Sloan and Emilie Richards.
Finished and ready for December first!

You can wish Pat a Happy Birthday too. She has lots going on - all of the time!

Falloween Projects Update

>> Saturday, October 9, 2010

An update on my Fall-o-ween projects. This is my first Wishing Well Runner. The designer is Pat Sloan. I'm using some leaves from Roseann's of Rosebud's Cottage project instead of Pat's stars. It needs to be sandwiched, quilted and bound. Then repeated a few more times in different fabrics for gifts!!

My candy corn runner just needs some stitching around the candy to be complete. This one's really fun too. My first time using fusible batting and doing Gudrun's quilt as you go method.

Sandy's pumpkin. Still needs buttons. Not sure about what else. I really like it. I might add a leaf or an acorn too.

If you click on the Fall-o-ween button in my sidebar it will take you to Gudrun's site and you can find links to all of the designers. I hope to sit down during some football tomorrow and do some of the embellishing on these projects.

I've also been busy expanding my sewing space. Specifically to the left of my machine!!

With the addition of the filing cabinet I have one less excuse to work on finishing my closet full of quilt tops!

My September String Blocks

The pumpkin project from Sandy Gervais during the Fall-o-ween hop.
No wool here, so I used a piece of homespun for the pumpkin that I've had in my stash for 5 years or so!!
I did the blanket stitch by hand and tried to make the pumpkin look dimensional with some stitching.
Still need to do the stem and decide how I'm hanging it.
It's small - 12 x 15 inches.
I really liked using up my pre-cut 2 1/2 inch orange squares for the background.

The start of Fall always invigorates me - the cooler temperatures, bright fall leaves and the chance to do more baking! So, of course, I also took the opportunity to completely overhaul my sewing space!! More photos of the changes this week. (To see what it looked like in January, click here)

Here's a look at my sewing machine nook now:

I finally hung up a spool rack. This one I received as a wedding shower gift - 14 years ago! I took off the polyester threads and my daughter put our humble thread stash on display. She says we need more thread - I agree!

Thankful to Receive

>> Thursday, September 30, 2010

My sister ROCKS!
I received this little package in the mail yesterday.

Sweet!

Squeal!

polka dot rick rack!!!

Thank you, sis!

I even cut up some of the selvages yesterday to use for some fall projects.
They blend in great with some already in my stash.
You might see these here tomorrow as part of my Fall into Fall giveaway. hint....hint....

During TV time last night I stitched down the pumpkin from Tuesday's Fall-o-ween hop project.

Last day of the month - time to crunch that to-do-list!

Mail at Sunset

>> Wednesday, September 29, 2010

I went out to get the mail last night and was greeted by this rainbow.
You could almost see the whole arc, so I walked towards the backyard to get a better view.

I found a neighbour's fading purple shed courting this tree changing colours instead.
Storm clouds were rolling in and covering the rainbow.

This was the view from behind my "super" mailbox.

I stood for a little while in the parking lot and watched the rainbow get clouded over and these clouds change from pink, to orange, to yellow.
The air cooled and it almost felt like a light mist as I turned towards home.

Valori Wells has been blogging about clouds lately.
And Scott and Blue Nickel Studios posted a neat night sky too.
Do you take pictures of clouds? Sunsets? Trees?
I do. They have their own file on my computer too.
I would love to dye fabrics that look like the sky some time.

I got started on Sandy Gervais' project on the Fall-o-ween hop.
I had all of these orange 2 1/2 inch squares already cut!

I'm using up the last of this print. Granny stash, I think. The top piece is for this project. Then I cut 2 charm squares {5"}, one 2 1/2 inch strip, and have a little 2 inch wide piece leftover to put into a string quilt.

Fall-o-ween Fun

>> Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Yesterday's Fall-o-ween project almost complete.
I used up some long lingering stash fabric too.
Just needs the binding sewn down and some machine quilting.

Today's project is printed off and I've found my box of 2 1/2 inch squares.
This one is even smaller than yesterday's with a finished size of 12 x15 inches.

I joined up to be part of the Fall into Fall Blog Giveaway that starts this Friday, October 1st.
This scarecrow is your 'mascot' to fun!!
I'll have to set aside some quilting time to get a prize {or two!} ready.
It's not too late for you to sign up, too.

Making Monday Hop

>> Monday, September 27, 2010

Today is the beginning of the Falloween Blog Hop. My design wall has the white pieces up for a small liberated Churn Dash {you may have to click the photo to see it} and my pieces for the first Falloween project.

I am using my stash. There will be 10 projects through the hop. I'm not aiming to make all ten, but, this one has candy corn featured and I've been wanting something with candy corn for fall. Plus, it uses fusible fleece - which I bought THIS summer to do Gudrun's project from last year's hop (and still haven't made)!!

The project is a small table runner, which I might hang on the wall. I used the middle multi-coloured fabric to pick out the rest of my fabrics.

Less than 2 hours later, I have this much put together. Pulling apart the fusible fleece is like unraveling cotton candy!! But the procrastinator in me loves the fact that I will have all three layers together and the binding sewn on the front today!

Check out what the other design walls are showcasing today. Thanks again to Judy for keeping us all motivated to create on Mondays, and hopefully the whole week through.

With Joy,
Sarah Vee
