Into February with a Flourish

>> Sunday, February 2, 2014

I'm not a ground hog, but I'm still coming out of my burrow to announce my January UFO is finished.

It's a long, wide tablerunner for fall. Check out my last past about my UFO for the details on where to find the pattern (a free one from Pat Sloan!) I didn't end up putting on a binding because I had cut the backing the exact right size. Instead I did the envelope or 'birthing' method which doesn't use binding.

What's next for February?
I'm planning to make some of the Threads of Memory blocks as they come out.

I think my next UFO will be to quilt my Aurifil 2013 quilt for my daughter. If I get it done on time, it will  a birthday present.
If not,
there's always Christmas!

With Joy,

Sarah Vee

Welcoming 2014 with a FLOURISH

A NEW YEAR'S EVE FINISH!

New Year's Eve was the annual luau hosted by Pat Sloan on her mashup forum. I had loads of fun chatting with friends and working on this quilt!

My last finish of 2014 is made up of blocks that my sister and I made {at least 6} years ago.
It's not ALL of the blocks, but these ones my son picked out of the pile. He likes yellow.
Several years ago I played with making the original 12 inch blocks bigger by adding a border to each block. I was inspired by a halloween quilt the Kathy Mack at Pink Chalk Fabric was working on at the time. Here's Kathy's post with the frames on her blocks.

This is the back - almost all train fabric. My son is a {steam train} aficionado at 6. He's been working at it for years (grin). The rest of the back is a strip of leftover Traffic Jam blocks {free Pat Sloan pattern} and one more yellow block from the mix on the front - notice this one never got a border.

I also picked my word for the year: Flourish.

I'm hoping to flourish in all sorts of ways, not the least of which is finishing up some UFOs and displaying the here - with a flourish! :)

Do you pick a word for the year?
Feel free to share in the comments.

Wishing you JOY in 2014,

Sarah Vee

First UFO Finish of 2013 - Folk Art Garden

>> Friday, February 1, 2013

My first UFO finish of 2013!
I'm delighted, and relieved. This quilt has been in the works for a while, and then sat for a bit longer. Thanks to Pat Sloan and her UFO tips, I got focused again this year on COMPLETING projects.
I have started an official bucket list for quilts too - but that's a different story.

My visual project list board has been a great incentive and motivator. I've already completed 2 projects listed, changed one, and now added a new one.

Enjoying the feeling of an accomplishment this morning as I endure the endless snow days around here!
The kids have been home since TUESDAY!

Funny thing is, I still managed to get this quilt done this week - and then some.

With Joy,
Sarah Vee

Checking in with a Winner and a Finish!

>> Monday, February 6, 2012

Janet is the winner of my wool rotary cutter ornament. Congratulations, Janet!

The football season is over and I'm happy to report that I finished binding this quilt during the first half of the Superbowl. I met my goal and this 12 year old UFO is finished!!

Sorry for my absence here. I am currently working at 2 different jobs outside of the home in addition to raising my children, keeping dishes and clothes clean and all that jazz. Quilting has become a joy that is captured in scattered moments throughout my week. I'm hoping to catch up on some blogging real soon!

With Joy,
Sarah Vee
