Three Finishes Friday

My first finish isn't a QUILT finish . . . but it is related to quilting. I read the Emilie Richards' book that I won called, Sister's Choice. I took it with me camping and visiting and enjoyed reading it on the beaches! I won it as part of Pat Sloan's and Emilie's BOM prize for finishing all of my advent stockings.

This finish inspired the 2nd finish when I got home from holidays:

I put together the top for the Season of Grace BOM. I need to quilt it then attach buttons for all of the stockings to hang from.

My 3rd finish is a joint finish with my sister:

We made Bonnie Hunter's Double Delight quilt for our parents to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. We named ours, Ruby Delight. It's been one of the secret projects I've worked on over the last year.

I made the star blocks.

And designed and made the borders. And the binding - then I mailed it to my sister. You can see how well it all went together at my sister's blog. She was in charge of quilting it!

Here's a photo of the label {not sure you can read it even if you enlarge it} It was my first attempt at applique from many years ago. I kept it around and thought it would make a good label. Another use for those orphan blocks!

There, I did it! Some quilting this summer after all.

DESIGN WALL Monday

Two design walls on the go this week. My regular design wall has these strip blocks ready to make a birthday placemat for a niece. The plan is to make it look like a butterfly.

I'm also using my bi-fold closet doors so I can take pictures of my flying geese borders. Who knew a queen size bed was so long?! More of these to go. I had to go get more thread this weekend to keep going. I'm sewing them together in pairs then making the lengths required. Check out the other design walls linked at Judy's blog.

Flying through My List

One of the projects I have left on my Spring to Finish list is making the borders to a quilt. The main part of the borders is made up of Flying Geese blocks.

100 to be exact.

This method saved my sanity - not to mention lots of time!

Quick Method - Four Geese No Waste

I am not a trimmer {my mantra, perhaps}, but the little bit you need to do on these blocks is painless.

I don't enjoy pressing, but find it is almost a miracle cure for making points meet and taming wild corners.

I have 100 geese ready to fly.

Next up - to put them inside the sky!

One Jason Mraz album later. . .

I am one step closer to having these block pieces almost done.
Trying to sound positive after almost a WEEK of no sewing!

We repainted half the house instead.

I scrambled to find some strips to make this week's block. My sister is making a quilt with strip blocks too. My plans are a bit different and not finalized yet. Are you surprised?!

Glad I had the chance to quilt today. That's what the "dewrinkle" cycle is for on the dryer, right?

Strumming and Trimming

I made my husband a Guitar stocking for his birthday. He wants to save for a really special guitar for his BIG birthday in a couple of years. I used the Season of Grace stocking as my template. I drew the guitar and stitched 'strings'. The button is the sound hole.

I have spent alot of time trimming lately. Something I don't enjoy, but I like the results.

I have one more set of blocks to sew together and trim. These blocks take time. I like the process once I'm in it.

Time to dive back in.

Three Takes Thursday on Christmas Eve

I received my Secret Elf package this week. The exchange was organized through Pat Sloan's Quilt Mashup forum. I received three fat quarters of brights, Quilter's chocolate wedges, a peace drawstring bag with lavender in it, and some candy canes. A perfect little quilter treat!

I completed the blocks I needed to get done for this week. My sister and I are collaborating on a special one for next year. This is a third of my blocks done. I can't wait to keep working on it now that so much progress has been made.

I made three more Green Bag Lady bags. Two at the original size and a smaller 10 inch square one using the rest of the material I had. This is silk like fabric - I think I bought it a few years ago to make something for my daughter. That never happened - but now I have some bonus Christmas gifts!

I hope you enjoy the Christmas weekend. May you find time for all that you enjoy with the people you love.

Merry Monday!

Welcome to Monday! As you can see there's not much new on the design wall. I finished one more of the blocks on the right. I almost have all the pieces finished to make the rest. The blue square in a squares need - squared up - and I'm almost finished sewing all the last side of burgundy triangles to the white squares. My sister made the mini nine patch centres and they are waiting patiently on my cutting table.
I finished one more Lady of the Lake after cutting and making 14 more sets of hst. This one has to wait until next week now.

We spent the weekend visiting with relatives - and Santa.

Perhaps our New Best Friend around here! Now I'm baking cookies, sewing, and sending the husband out to get the last of our groceries before we head out again after Christmas. My husband even finished up the rest of the wrapping today!

Design Wall

As Judy pointed out last week, there are only 3 more Design Wall Mondays until next year!

On the left you'll see I have 6 MORE Lady of the Lake blocks to complete. Then I will have them all pieced. I would like this step done before Christmas. Next year involves matching them into sets of 4 and finishing them with the "quilt as you go" style of Georgia Bonsteel.

On the far right are 2 blocks that begin my process into a new quilt. I would like to have at least 6 to 8 more of these blocks done by Christmas. They are for a collaborative quilt I'm working on with my sister. It's delivery date is by the end of next summer. Stay tuned . . .!

Also you can see some leftover mittens and my Christmas words that still need to be blanket stitched. I want to get those letters done as they are hogging alot of my pins!
