Three Finishes Friday

>> Friday, July 30, 2010

My first finish isn't a QUILT finish . . . but it is related to quilting. I read the Emilie Richards' book that I won called, Sister's Choice. I took it with me camping and visiting and enjoyed reading it on the beaches! I won it as part of Pat Sloan's and Emilie's BOM prize for finishing all of my advent stockings.

This finish inspired the 2nd finish when I got home from holidays:

I put together the top for the Season of Grace BOM. I need to quilt it then attach buttons for all of the stockings to hang from.

My 3rd finish is a joint finish with my sister:

We made Bonnie Hunter's Double Delight quilt for our parents to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. We named ours, Ruby Delight. It's been one of the secret projects I've worked on over the last year.

I made the star blocks.

And designed and made the borders. And the binding - then I mailed it to my sister. You can see how well it all went together at my sister's blog. She was in charge of quilting it!

Here's a photo of the label {not sure you can read it even if you enlarge it} It was my first attempt at applique from many years ago. I kept it around and thought it would make a good label. Another use for those orphan blocks!

There, I did it! Some quilting this summer after all.

Friday Finishes

>> Friday, January 15, 2010

First Friday Finish is this Makeup Bag for my daughter. She is in a skating competition this weekend where makeup is part of the costume:)

I was excited the zipper works and I made another STRIP project.
Her response - "It's great! It will hold A LOT of makeup."

I loosely followed the tutorial on Moda Bakeshop to make this bag. I pulled out strips from my daughter's drawer left over from her Cousin Christmas Challenge. I searched in the unsorted bin you see in the picture to find a zipper.

I found some other neat things in there too.

Like this BRIGHT RED double fold bias tape. It was the perfect amount to go around my Second Birthday Placemat - my THIRD String project (but whose keeping track!:))

This one is for my nephew whose Birthday is in January. The stitching gives you a clue who!

Now I need to catchup on my Birthday Basket quilt panel. . . the weekend is near!

Friday Finish and the Start of Some Fun!

>> Friday, January 8, 2010

I finished both Friendship bags this morning. The one on the left is for ME and just needed the lining stitched closed and the final sewing around the top edge. The one on the right I made this morning from ironing cut pieces to final sewing. Half a birthday present for tomorrow - DONE!

I managed to finish the quilting on the first Birthday Baskets quilt panel. I took a closer picture so you could see my diagonal lines. The plan is for a zigzag effect across the quilt top with possible braids in the sashing borders. The braids will depend on how well the lines match up when I get all three panels completed.

And the stash strip fun has begun! I couldn't resist! My sister and I are already planning to work on these blocks throughout the year. Now Stephanie at Loft Creations (our major inspiration) is doing a challenge! For now, I'm happy I got started:)

Here's to a weekend where you (and I!) can fit in some quilting time!
