Basket Block - 3rd Cutting Option

>> Sunday, June 15, 2014

Now that my basket block has become my official unofficial leader ender for the year, I've found that making each one out of scraps means that I might not have the right sizes of fabric to cut based on my original directions.

When I made my instructions the first time I included a second cutting diagram for using fat quarters so that the basket handle could have the triangles at the top corners. {The initial instructions were designed for using a 10" layer cake}

I am now presenting a third option! This way is a bit quicker with less pieces to sew.

Centre square = 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches

Top handle of basket = 2 1/2 inches tall by 4 1/2 inches wide
 {which side is which may matter if your fabric is directional!}

Basket handle sides = 2 - 2 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch strips

Block background beside handles = 2 - 2 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch strips
Block background bottom at basket = 1 - 4 7/8 square

Top edge of basket = 2 1/2 inches tall by 12 1/2 inches wide

Basket = 1 - 4 1/2 inch square  AND 1 - 4 7/8 inch square

In case you want to print out a pretty copy to work from and make your own scrap happy basket blocks. . . . I made a quick pdf for you to download!
