Double Delight Story Placemats

Striped Delight in Story on Red

I have been into making placemats again. They're like mini quilts I can enjoy looking at while I eat!!
 {This version of Striped Delight doesn't have a pocket - it does have a quilted heart :) }

I've used up some of my Story line of fabric scraps that I got from Carrie Bloomston. I tried to keep the bigger pieces whole and to feature them in the different mats.

I finished quilting my BOLD Delight one too. Love the middle fabric! I really enjoyed playing with the different shapes and spaces in these fabrics.

Such a happy pink! I loved the weaving on this print - selvages! And the herringbone text print. I still have some scraps left to make some different placemats too.

Cotton and Steel pencils for backing.

I couldn't resist using the pencil fabric from Cotton and Steel for the backing - I like to write my stories down on paper still. Hopefully I always will :)

Set for A Joyful Summer - Striped Delight

>> Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Ah, summer! Time to tackle my to-do list, right? Well time is precious and I've been spending some of it helping my son clean out old toys. That isn't finished yet and now I'm glad I started this early in the summer!

But I've also been spending 15 minutes in my sewing space moving my projects along. I finally finished actually quilting all of these placemats! I'm so happy with them. I love the fabric and how they look in my space.

They are reversible which means I get to look at these ones too!

I think these colours are very patriotic, but they also remind me of country picnics.

You can find the pattern for them in my online shop.

Remember, instructions for both placemat patterns are included in the one pattern and it uses only 1 layer cake - no additional yardage is required!

Of course, you could always cut from your stash! I could see using only 3 different fabrics from your stash to make these too.

Here's a post to help with that - How to Make your own 10 inch squares

Wishing you lots of JOY this week,

Sarah V.

layer cake placemat pattern striped delight

I finally did it! I made something with my FIRST ever layer cake! My mom got it for me years ago and I just thought it was too pretty to cut into. I also didn't realize how MUCH fabric there is in a layer cake. (I had never really done the math - 10x10 inch square x 40 squares!)

The placemats also match my dishes! The first time I've done that :)

Striped Delight was also another FINALLY for me: I've wanted to design something patriotic for a couple of years, but never come up with anything I like. I'm not American, but, I do love the country simplicity of these stripes.

AND I managed to add a pocket - on the right side of the placemat too. (My Eat with JOY! pocket is on the left)

 What's really fun is that there is so much fabric in a layer cake, I was able to design 2 different placemat patterns!

The second pattern is super quick and I think would be a fun way to play with some of the more modern fabric lines. I'm hoping to find a Christmas line I like to make this pattern in.

The Double Delight Placemat Pattern is available in my online shop.

{Thanks!}

And yes, the patterns DO make 5 of each placemat (with 5 squares leftover). My photos only show 4 placemats because, well, my first go wasn't my last go! Here's a photo of my first attempt. Too stripy and not in a good way. The secondary design that showed up in the corners made me itchy :) So I went back to the drawing board (actually I drew my design on the cardboard that the layer cake came on!) and came up with better stripes! Lucky for me that let me add a pocket too!

With Joy,

Sarah V.
