block 3 secret garden

I finished block 3 of Pat Sloan's Secret Garden block of the month. I went with the darker squares in the middle to help balance the lightness of my fussy cut center. You can see the other option here. LOVE using these stashed favourite fabrics and soooo happy that this will be a quilt for me!

block 10 splendid sampler

And I'm caught up until tomorrow on my Splendid Sampler blocks. This is block 10. I know tomorrow's will have some embroidery again because I've signed up for the designer's newsletter - Alyssa Thomas of Penguin and Fish - and she dropped hints! I'm having fun *meeting* some new designers and creating these blocks. Knowing they are for someone else makes them extra special too.

selvage chair cushion

This is what I ended up making with the selvage fabric I was creating in my last post - a chair cushion!

selvage front

I could easily cut a 16 inch square from the selvage fabric I made.

I followed this tutorial for a flanged pillow here on Bijou Lovely's blog. I know I read a more recent tutorial and that's what gave me the idea, but I can't find it now! Never fear, this tutorial was very easy to follow :)

closeup moda twine

To make it into a chair cushion instead of a pillow I added two pieces of Moda twine - the kind that fat quarter bundles come wrapped in;)
I cut them approximately 23 inches long - after ironing!

Then I eye-balled where to place the twine between the layers before sewing around them to enclose the pillow. I folded the twine strands in half and tucked them inside.

I am happy to report that they are spaced the perfect distance and are a great length. The big test here will be to see if my Siamese cat notices them and chews at them - a general hazard with this cat.

I'm really please with how it fits even before I add a pillow form inside. I will admit, my pillow form will be handmade as well and use up some of my batting bits! Yay for a green spring project!

To celebrate the beginning of Spring I thought I would host a Spring Linkup

Link up a recent post featuring a project for Spring - it could be a quilt, wall hanging, placemat, runner, basket, or a pillow - OR something else you made to celebrate/use in spring.

THERE WILL BE A SPRING GIVEAWAY
TO GO WITH THE LINK UP!

I'll share the giveaway items tomorrow? This post got way too long and I'm hungry :)

Link up will be open until 8 pm EST on Sunday April 3rd. That gives you lots of time to make something new even - and I might be able to help you with that! ;)

Okay - link up and celebrate Spring with me!

With Joy,

Sarah V.
