Design Wall Monday

>> Monday, May 17, 2010

Congrats to HAPPY in INDONESIA!!
THANKS FOR VISITING. THANKS SEW,MAMA,SEW.
DESIGN WALL Monday
Two design walls on the go this week. My regular design wall has these strip blocks ready to make a birthday placemat for a niece. The plan is to make it look like a butterfly. I'm also using my bi-fold closet doors so I can take pictures of my flying geese borders. Who knew a queen size bed was so long?! More of these to go. I had to go get more thread this weekend to keep going. I'm sewing them together in pairs then making the lengths required. Check out the other design walls linked at Judy's blog.
SEW, MAMA, SEW Giveaway Day! Giveaway is CLOSED. 'Happy' won!
My giveaway is for this set of 4 selvage coasters. I made them myself! They each measure just under 6 inches square.
They all have the NEST bird print on the back {or the front!}
TO WIN: Leave a comment telling me what you sew for your home besides quilts. {I'm thinking curtains, pillows, tea cozies etc.} For a Second Chance: Leave another comment telling me what colours you would use to make placemats for your home {inside or out}
I will ship Internationally.
You can leave a comment until NOON Eastern Time, May 20th. Winner will be drawn randomly from ALL COMMENTS THAT HAVE EMAIL ADDRESSES. That means, if you are a no-reply blogger you need to put an email address in your comment. (Amy has a great post on steps to take to change your profile from no-reply here} Have fun blog hopping through the Sew,Mama, Sew Giveaway!

People like yourself are my inspiration. I am not able to sew, but my daughter does. So, I thank you for the opportunity to win something so lovely.

Gorgerou coasters! I sew almost all of my clothes. I know, not necessarily something for the home, but i live here so it is indirectly. ;)

Also, I would make black and white placemats. I have a lavender dining room so I accent it with black and white accessories.

Jodi May 18, 2010 at 8:56 PM

I love the coasters! They're beautiful! I've only sewn pillows or toys for my home.

dealia79(at)gmail(dot)com

Jodi May 18, 2010 at 8:58 PM

Our kitchen is sage green and cream, but I'd probably want to introduce a brighter green and yellow because those colors are in my dishes. Thanks for the giveaway!

Jen Price May 18, 2010 at 11:03 PM

I'm still new to sewing. So far I've only made some skirts for my daughter and some pillows!

BoutiqueKarma May 18, 2010 at 11:04 PM

I'd love to win - I love the use of the selvege edges.

Jen Price May 18, 2010 at 11:04 PM

Your orange, green, and blue place mats are inspiring! I think I would choose those colors! So springy!

wooLynn May 18, 2010 at 11:06 PM

T.J. May 18, 2010 at 11:34 PM

Alas, these days it seems most of the sewing I do for my home is repairs! I'd like to get back to making new things.
thevanandthecart[at]gmail[dot]com

T.J. May 18, 2010 at 11:36 PM

The colors I'd like to use for placemats are bright colors: bright blue, orange, and bright red. Cheerful.

Ooh I love birds and I LOVE making use of otherwise-unwanted items! these coasters are lovely!
I'm a newbie sewer, so I'm making my very first set of placemats! They are black with tiny white polkadots on one side, the other is this great fabric with black/red/yellow/turquoise kitchen-y items in a diamond pattern that I found at sew mama sew's shop. They will have a little utensil pocket I'm thinking in red with tiny white polkadots. And I'm thinking to stitch in some turquoise blue bias into the border, eep!! :)
Next on the list is a bunch of cloth napkins that the kids will love! Brighter colors and patterns, or linen color with embroidery or appliqueing on them! thanks!

staceycanada May 19, 2010 at 2:53 AM

Those are super cute coasters!
I seem to be always sewing.
I do clothing for the kids, hem dh's pants, placemats, potholders, general mending.
My favorite sewing project though is making cloth diapers. I have made all my daughters cloth and I love it.

These coasters are great! I mainly sew for babies and kids, and I make bags. A better question would be what do I want to make for my home... that list is really long.

Nick May 19, 2010 at 6:33 AM

they are lovely! I've sewn storage for my daughter's shoes recently, and toy storage baskets

Vickie LeBlanc May 19, 2010 at 8:02 AM

These are lovely. I'm an amateur at sewing but I sew a lot of grocery/market bags. I refuse to take plastic grocery bags into our home.

Liz May 19, 2010 at 8:09 AM

Love the coasters :)

The only thing I have sewn for my home, has been curtains - about 9 years ago, and most of them are still un-hemmed lol

Megan May 19, 2010 at 2:28 PM

I love those coasters! Too cute! What I sew for the home - curtains which double as closet doors. I want to try a floormat for the kitchen. Potholders, lots of potholders. Aprons. Thanks!

Megan May 19, 2010 at 2:29 PM

Also, I love the placemat that you made. Have you done a tutorial for it? I'm behind on my google reader reading, so clicking over was the first time I saw it. And I would make a placemat in browns and maroons and greens. We have a Tuscan theme in our kitchen / dining room

Kelly O. May 19, 2010 at 3:51 PM

I'm actually working on sewing a tablerunner right now...

Kelly O. May 19, 2010 at 3:54 PM

My kitchen has chocolate brown, pear, light gold and pumpkin tile on the backsplash and is a pumpkin colour on the walls--seriously 70's colours but not in style!
I think I'd make chocolate buttery yellow/gold and cream placemats

Djaj May 19, 2010 at 4:24 PM

DK May 20, 2010 at 1:01 AM

Deb (Two Cheeky Monkeys) May 20, 2010 at 2:27 AM

I don't sew quilts, but for my home I have sewn Christmas coasters and wipeable placemat for my daughters. I would love to make some coasters, placemats and table toppers for my formal dining area in shades of blue or purple and gold.

Shirley May 20, 2010 at 5:31 AM

The last home sewing I did was covers for some chairs. I didn't really sew them but I did zigzag around all of the edges! I don't sew much for the home, cushion covers, etc. But I'm planning to quilt a table runner soon. I guess I would like yellow placemats.

Anonymous,  May 20, 2010 at 6:49 AM

if I made placemats for home they would probably be dark purple and aqua

Lisa May 20, 2010 at 7:34 AM

Love the bluebirds! I've made window seat cushions for my house. It was quite a task, but fun to do. I love blues.

Happy Thursday from Indiana! :)
